Tibetan New Year is the traditional holidays for Tibet It is called “Gyalpo Losar” in Tibetan which means “King’s New Year”.

People organized various entertainment’s such as arch sword, spear and pole-climbing contests.They erect prayer flags on mountains and by the sides of rivers to ensure they would be safe and sound and have a good luck in the coming year.From then on,various activities for the new year began to form.

The Great Prayer  (FEB 13rd-18th MAR 3rd-8th )

The Great prayer Festival is called”Monlam Chemo Tibetan.It’s the grandest religious holiday in Tibet.

During the Great Prayer Festival,in the streets of Lhasa there are butter tributes,butter flowers,butter lamps and various figurs and flowers and birds made of butter for people to enjoy the 15^th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar.

BUDDHA’S  (JUN 16th  JUN 6th)

During festival, Monks will hold religious activies and Buddhists will honor Buddha and chant sutras.People circumambulate sacred places in a clock-wise direction and pray to Buddha.They gather by the Dragon King Pool and go boating,singing songs.They have picnic under the willows on the bank.

In Gyantse ,The Horseracing lasts five to seven day The main activities of the horseracing are concerned with interflow of commodities in pastoral areas.In Damshong,people added the event of yakracing .the untrained yaks in red green dash around madly the shout of their riders.

THE LINGKA  (JUL 16th  JUL 5th)

In Tibetan,the Lingka Festival means “World Happiness Day” People celebrate the festival in parks in the western suburbs of Lhasa from the 15^th day to the 20 th day of fifth month of the Tibetan calendar.The festival originated from one of the four major offerings which were first made by Muni Puzan the Tubo Kingdom.  People burm incense to pay their homage to the gods.  During the festival,Tibetans dress up and carry butter tea. “Tsampa” and various delicious food parks.They have picnics and enjoy songs and dance there.The fastival lasts two weeks.

This festival is called “Dudba Tseshe ”which means “the Fourth Day of the Sixth Month”It is also called “holly Mountains Festival” It is the festival to celebrate the day Sakyamuni firat preached a sermon with prayerwheel.On this day,people with food go to monasteries and temples to pay their homage to Buddhas.Then they have picnics ,relax and enjoy themselves.they sing and dance in the fields.

THE SHOLDON  (AUG 29^th-SEP  AUG 19^th-23rd)

The festival is for eating yoghurt it is one of the tradtiona festival with a long history in Tibet.Since the activities include Tibetan opera,it is also called “Tibetan Opera Festival” During the festival.all the residenin Lhasa go out and gather in the Norbulingka Park They set up beautiful tents and hang curtains there.They bring cakes ,sweets,dairy products yak-butter tea and barley wine with them and then came in the park for three days.
