Guan-Yue Temple was originally a family temple of Prince Chunxian, the sixth
son of Emperor Daoguang., which finished its building in 1899. Facing to the
south, this temple owns three yard and each of them contains another two
yards. Buildings on the central line includes a screen wall which faces the
main gate of the temple, main hall, central hall, all of which covers an
area of about over 3000 square meters. Red walls, ancient tree, yellow tile,
jade railing, flower fusma, and sculptured pillar full displayed the art
style of Ming and Qing Dynasty.
In the year 1914, the Beiyang Warlord Government set up sculptures for the
two historical figures Guan Yu and Yue Fei, and so changed the name of the
temple into Guan-Yue Temple. After the foundation of PRC, it was once the
agency of Tibet Dalai Lama, and later was the Beijing office of People’s
government of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Today, Guan-Yue Temple has
already successfully approved as Beijing Historical Reservation Unit.
